Adopting an energy management system (EMS) is now one of the most effective approaches to sustainably improve the energy performance of industrial organizations. In a context of perpetually high operating costs and in which tariffs complicate the task of industrial facilities and competitiveness depends on the ability to optimize every kilowatt-hour, an EMS makes it possible to transform one-off measures into continuous and measurable gains.

Thanks to a systematic approach based on reliable data, industry not only reduces consumption, but also strengthens resilience, improves processes, and positions itself advantageously in an economy increasingly focused on efficiency and decarbonization.

A new Hydro-Québec program focused on recognized skills

With this in mind, Hydro-Québec is now incorporating a training requirement for consultants or customers participating in its brand new EMS program.

The professionals responsible for reporting will have to demonstrate recognized skills in measurement and verification (M&V) and energy management systems (EMS).

The training requirements are as follows:

  • Consultants signing energy savings reports must hold CMVP (Certified Measurement and Verification Professional) certification or the equivalent as well as advanced training in measurement and verification (M&V).
  • Those responsible for EMS implementation reports must hold 50001 certification (50001 Certified Professional) or equivalent.

CIET: A unique position in Quebec and Canada

CIET has long held a unique position in Canada, particularly in Quebec, thanks to its combination of local expertise and international recognition.

CMVP: The most recognized measurement and verification certification

The CMVP certification, offered by CIET for nearly 20 years in Canada, is by far the most established in Quebec and Canada.

  • There are currently: certified professionals in Quebec
  • More than 700 certified professionals in Canada
  • 3,434 certified professionals worldwide, including 3,803 certified professionals and those currently in training

CIET, therefore, offers a true ecosystem of M&V expertise already rooted in the Quebec market, facilitating participation in the EMS program for Quebec firms.

50001 Certified Professional (50001 CP): The only certification offered in French in Canada

Developed by the Association of Energy Engineers (AEE) in the United States and offered in Canada by CIET, the 50001 CP certification is currently the only certification on the ISO 50001 standard and EMS offered in French in Canada.

Accessible training tailored to the Quebec market

CIET offers three great training courses that stand out for:

  • They are more affordable than many other training options, payable in Euros or US dollars.
  • CIET’s advanced M&V training is offered over 12 hours, allowing requirements to be met more quickly.
  • Quebec trainers understand the local industrial reality and the specific requirements of Hydro-Québec. They offer contextual, concrete, and immediately applicable support for trainnings tailored to the reality of the Quebec market.

A strategic training partner for the energy transition

Since Hydro-Québec’s ambitious new program promotes EMS implementation among large industrial customers, CIET is positioning itself more than ever as the most suitable, recognized, and accessible training partner to support consultants and industrialists in this major transition in Quebec.
