One of the unique and central aspects of the Energy Efficiency for Building Operators and Maintenance Staff (EEBOM) training course is the Energy Hunt. The Hunt and its related activities brings participants out of the virtual classroom and into the practical day-to-day operations of a building. By doing so, participants can take part in the detailed examination of a building to identify energy consuming systems and energy waste.
The lessons learned from these exercises are brought back into the classroom, where participants learn how to conduct savings calculations from the energy-saving opportunities identified during the Hunt.
In an interview with Stephen Dixon, CIET’s lead trainer for the EEBOM course, we asked him about the savings he been able to unlock via the Energy Hunt activities. His response was:
I’m not shy to say that through the EEBOM training, we regularly find annual energy savings of $50,000 to $100,000, depending on the size of the building we are dealing with. It’s not unusual for the savings to represent 10-15% of the organization’s total energy costs.

While each Energy Hunt is unique and produces different results, here’s a look at the savings that have been found in a recent EEBOM Energy Hunt:
This workshop is best when customized to your organisation, your type of facility, your staff’s responsibilities and when in-line with your energy-consumption data. If you are interested in organising a custom EEBOM workshop, please contact info@cietcanada.com.
