Organizations that own and operate buildings are increasingly setting aggressive targets to reduce their GHG emissions. These targets are driven by factors such as increasing carbon taxes, carbon pollution limits, corporate social responsibility, and tenant demand. Additionally, extreme heat and wildfire events are pushing us to create more climate resilient buildings. To meet these aggressive targets, many organizations are shifting their focus from energy efficiency measures to decarbonization projects. These projects involve more stakeholders, higher costs, and more complex technical and operational considerations.
Planning for a low carbon transition and selecting decarbonization projects can be complicated. Where do we start? Which projects or buildings should we prioritize? How do we determine the best path to decarbonize our portfolios? This course guides participants through the process of selecting the best path. Case studies are used to illustrate important decarbonization project considerations and success factors.
This two-day course is designed to guide participants in decarbonizing their facilities.
The course uses case studies from the commercial, institutional, multi-unit residential, and residential sectors to present the content.
This course is relevant to anyone involved in facility management, operations management and planning, or sustainability planning. It is especially valuable to those tasked with identifying and implementing decarbonization projects in commercial, industrial, multi-unit, residential, and institutional buildings.
In the Planning and Selecting GHG Reduction Projects course, participants also learn about the tools and expertise necessary to determine the most effective path to decarbonization aligned with their organization’s emission reduction targets, capital planning cycles, operator capacity and expertise, and climate adaptation goals. They gain knowledge about the best practices developed through real-world experience to ensure decarbonization projects are successful in both the short and long terms.

Thanks to the Becoming Carbon Neutral course, I gained a better understanding of how the industry's approach to carbon neutrality is taking significant strides towards standardization, definitions, and requirements. Unfortunately, some requirements are challenging for a small northern jurisdiction like Yukon. But knowing the industry standards was tremendously helpful for figuring out where we are and where we need to be. I was able to identify areas where we already do well, pinpoint gaps, and allocate resources accordingly. The course helped me understand the overall trajectory that our organization should follow to achieve carbon neutrality.
In our experience, CIET courses deliver a great foundation for all energy professionals—at any stage of their career or experience level. We were very satisfied with the facilitation and received positive feedback from QuadReal participants. It is a pleasure to work with CIET.
A couple of months back, I was an unemployed immigrant new graduate looking for learning opportunities to enhance my skills when one of my friends shared with me about the discounted price for the Energy Management Professional 101 (EMP) course during this pandemic. I am really happy about what CIET is doing now. You guys are impacting so many young professionals like me.
Working with CIET has made developing a training plan for trade allies in my network easy. The team at CIET is knowledgeable, organized and passionate about delivering quality material in their course, and they work well to deliver customizable options for all of your training needs.
We have had great success with the NRCan Foundation Level Exam Exam Prep course and the Making the Case for Energy Management Projects. We look forward to offering more training programs to our trade allies.
The Foundation Level Exam Prep Course was very insightful, well structured and delivered, and the compilation of resources was extremely helpful. This was an exceptional training experience. Money well spent. I am glad I chose CIET for preparing the NRCan Foundation Level Exam.
My background in energy efficiency was primarily at the industrial process level, so I chose to train with CIET to expand my knowledge on building energy systems. I completed the Advanced Course on Existing Building Commissioning (EBCx) as well as the two courses on Building Automation Systems. The new concepts I learned, enhanced by the knowledge of the trainers and the other participants, quickly helped me identify opportunities relating to energy, comfort, and maintenance, most often "low cost" ones.
The online CEM course was very professionally put together. The team instructors were really knowledgeable and engaging, and the exam was administered and very easy to take through proctorU.
