Energy Management and the ISO 50001 Standard is designed for those who wish to develop an energy management culture in their organization. It covers the essential elements necessary for success and is aligned with the requirements of the ISO 50001 standard.
ISO 50001 is an internationally acknowledged standard that provides organizations with a structured framework for managing energy. It serves to incorporate energy efficiency into management practices to enhance understanding about energy usage, promote positive energy management behaviours, and foster energy conservation practices. The use of ISO 50001 has increased over time because implementing it lowers energy expenses and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.
This one-day interactive training encourages participants to consider their role in promoting and strengthening an energy efficiency culture within their organizations. While it follows the ISO 50001 standard for continuous energy performance improvement, the training does not require implementing the ISO 50001 standard or obtaining certification to benefit from the lessons and exercises.

Thanks to the Becoming Carbon Neutral course, I gained a better understanding of how the industry's approach to carbon neutrality is taking significant strides towards standardization, definitions, and requirements. Unfortunately, some requirements are challenging for a small northern jurisdiction like Yukon. But knowing the industry standards was tremendously helpful for figuring out where we are and where we need to be. I was able to identify areas where we already do well, pinpoint gaps, and allocate resources accordingly. The course helped me understand the overall trajectory that our organization should follow to achieve carbon neutrality.

My background in energy efficiency was primarily at the industrial process level, so I chose to train with CIET to expand my knowledge on building energy systems. I completed the Advanced Course on Existing Building Commissioning (EBCx) as well as the two courses on Building Automation Systems. The new concepts I learned, enhanced by the knowledge of the trainers and the other participants, quickly helped me identify opportunities relating to energy, comfort, and maintenance, most often "low cost" ones.
