Program overview

CIET is proud to offer the Fundamentals of Compressed Air Systems course in partnership with the Compressed Air Challenge. Many industrial users are unaware of facility air flows, neglect to track air-related costs, and fail to regularly monitor their systems beyond maintenance concerns. This training is aimed at increasing awareness about the challenges and solutions associated with compressed air systems.

During this one-day course, participants acquire the skills to efficiently calculate and minimize compressed air expenses within their facilities. Additionally, they gain expertise in effectively managing compressed air systems to ensure optimal reliability and productivity. Practical exercises, using data from their own facilities, are conducted to emphasize tangible cost-saving outcomes. This course equips participants with the knowledge necessary to prioritize the achievement of concrete results in their plants or facilities.

By participating in this training, participants develop a deeper understanding of the expenses linked to compressed air. The course acts as a trigger for recognizing and creating opportunities for cost reductions. A recent survey conducted by the U.S. Department of Energy revealed that facilities that implement energy saving measures achieve an impressive 80:1 cost-to-savings ratio.

This course is offered in collaboration with the Compressed Air Challenge (CAC).

What you will learn

  • Define the costs as well as maintenance and system reliability issues related to compressed air.
  • Control basic compressors.
  • Determine how and when to measure power, energy, pressure, flow, and more.
  • Maintain efficient systems.
  • Develop an action plan (based on seven steps).
  • Identify system problems and estimate potential savings.

This course is ideal for

  • Plant/facility engineers
  • Maintenance supervisors
  • Utilities with industrial clients
  • Plant/facility maintenance and repair staff
  • Other personnel responsible for compressed air systems in an industrial setting

Hear it from our graduates

Pierre-Francis Parent, Energy Efficiency and Sustainability Consultant - Planéco Énergie

My background in energy efficiency was primarily at the industrial process level, so I chose to train with CIET to expand my knowledge on building energy systems. I completed the Advanced Course on Existing Building Commissioning (EBCx) as well as the two courses on Building Automation Systems. The new concepts I learned, enhanced by the knowledge of the trainers and the other participants, quickly helped me identify opportunities relating to energy, comfort, and maintenance, most often "low cost" ones.

Leo Glaser, Energy Analyst – Operational Excellence, Quadreal Property Group

In our experience, CIET courses deliver a great foundation for all energy professionals—at any stage of their career or experience level. We were very satisfied with the facilitation and received positive feedback from QuadReal participants. It is a pleasure to work with CIET.

Marcel Soucy, Supervisor Groupe Énergie - ENGIE Services Inc.

We very much appreciate the efforts you have invested in virtual learning and encourage you to maintain this format. This cuts costs and optimizes time for everyone.

Tony Lam, Energy Manager - Government of Yukon

Thanks to the Becoming Carbon Neutral course, I gained a better understanding of how the industry's approach to carbon neutrality is taking significant strides towards standardization, definitions, and requirements. Unfortunately, some requirements are challenging for a small northern jurisdiction like Yukon. But knowing the industry standards was tremendously helpful for figuring out where we are and where we need to be. I was able to identify areas where we already do well, pinpoint gaps, and allocate resources accordingly. The course helped me understand the overall trajectory that our organization should follow to achieve carbon neutrality.

Haleigh Forbes, Manager – Efficiency Trade Network, Efficiency Nova Scotia
