Program overview

Join us for the ENERGY STAR® Portfolio Manager Webinar®: Benchmarking for Compliance Ordinance, a free and informative session exploring how the Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) Portfolio Manager tool supports energy reporting and compliance requirements. Widely used by provincial and local jurisdictions, this webinar is designed for government officials, facility managers, and energy‑focused professionals seeking to streamline the energy benchmarking and reporting process.

Participants will gain a clear understanding of the role of ENERGY STAR® Portfolio Manager® in compliance initiatives, explore commonly required reporting mechanisms, and learn best practices for setting up and organizing properties to ensure accurate, consistent, and efficient data management.

What is ENERGY STAR® Portfolio Manager®

ENERGY STAR® Portfolio Manager® is a management tool designed to measure and assess the energy performance of commercial and institutional buildings. Following widespread use in the United States, Natural Resources Canada adapted Portfolio Manager for use in Canada, where more than 26,000 buildings have been entered into the tool.

Over the years, Portfolio Manager has grown in popularity and usage because it allows users to understand energy consumption and associated costs (energy, water, and other resources), compare their buildings to similar properties, establish benchmarks, set realistic targets, and track the impact of reduction strategies through customized reports.

What you will learn

  • Understand the role of EPA's Portfolio Manager.
  • Comply with local benchmarking ordinance.
  • Set up your Portfolio Manager account and properties.
  • Request energy and water data from utilities.

This course is ideal for

  • Building owners and operators
  • Public-sector or institutional program managers
  • Building managers/supervisors
  • Asset and building portfolio managers
  • Industrial and water plant operators
