Program overview

Building on the knowledge acquired through the Building Automation Systems Essentials course, the Advanced Building Automation Systems Optimization course provides detailed information on the design, diagnostic, trend monitoring, and control strategies that allow participants to operate their buildings with exceptional efficiency and energy management practices.

This one-day training leverages a building automation system (BAS) diagnostic case study using real-time data to reinforce the principles taught in the course. The day also includes exercises to reinforce key concepts related to set point identification, scheduling impacts, identification of BAS optimization possibilities, sensor selection, and more.

By the end of this course, participants will have the ability to implement control strategies, scheduling, and design concepts in their building.

What you will learn

  • Discern the core design specifications of a BAS.
  • Identify opportunities for the BAS optimization.
  • Define the relationship between heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC), a BAS, and key control strategies.
  • Recognize the importance of identifying and monitor trends.
  • Explore the benefits of scheduling.
  • Analyze the calibration process.

This course is ideal for

  • Building operators
  • Technicians

Hear it from our graduates

Sean Martin, Home Inspector

The Foundation Level Exam Prep Course was very insightful, well structured and delivered, and the compilation of resources was extremely helpful. This was an exceptional training experience. Money well spent. I am glad I chose CIET for preparing the NRCan Foundation Level Exam..

Pierre-Francis Parent, Energy Efficiency and Sustainability Consultant - Planéco Énergie

My background in energy efficiency was primarily at the industrial process level, so I chose to train with CIET to expand my knowledge on building energy systems. I completed the Advanced Course on Existing Building Commissioning (EBCx) as well as the two courses on Building Automation Systems. The new concepts I learned, enhanced by the knowledge of the trainers and the other participants, quickly helped me identify opportunities relating to energy, comfort, and maintenance, most often "low cost" ones.

Thivya Viswanathan, Energy Analyst - Thompson Okanagan Tourism Association

A couple of months back, I was an unemployed immigrant new graduate looking for learning opportunities to enhance my skills when one of my friends shared with me about the discounted price for the Energy Management Professional 101 (EMP) course during this pandemic. I am really happy about what CIET is doing now. You guys are impacting so many young professionals like me.

Jeff Quint, Manager, Customer Solutions & Communications - Enova Power

The Becoming Carbon Neutral course helped frame the opportunities and challenges our customers and our own organization are going to face in becoming carbon neutral. It has served as a foundation, enabling our teams to better support our customers as they move through the process and be part of the solution.

Anyssa Rambali, Process Engineer - Durez Canada Company Ltd

The online CEM course was very professionally put together. The team instructors were really knowledgeable and engaging, and the exam was administered and very easy to take through proctorU.

Tony Lam, Energy Manager - Government of Yukon

Thanks to the Becoming Carbon Neutral course, I gained a better understanding of how the industry's approach to carbon neutrality is taking significant strides towards standardization, definitions, and requirements. Unfortunately, some requirements are challenging for a small northern jurisdiction like Yukon. But knowing the industry standards was tremendously helpful for figuring out where we are and where we need to be. I was able to identify areas where we already do well, pinpoint gaps, and allocate resources accordingly. The course helped me understand the overall trajectory that our organization should follow to achieve carbon neutrality.
