Roundtable: The blind spot in the energy transition: capacity building and its key role in getting the job done

    • 83% of employers say they have a hard time hiring EE staff

    • Not enough people, missing skills.
    • Lack of workforce and knowledge across Canada

    • Unemployment rate is still low

    • All of those who will contribute to 2040 goals are already born! The majority are already employed.

  • You have 30 minutes
  • We'll split into groups of 4
  • Each group needs to name:
    • A time keeper
    • A notes taker
    • A spokesperson
    • A leader
  • You all have to respond to the same questions.

1. Identifying Gaps: What specific areas or aspects of capacity building are currently lacking or underdeveloped in the context of decarbonizing and adapting existing homes and buildings?

2. Community Engagement: How can capacity building initiatives better involve and empower local communities, particularly those disproportionately affected by energy poverty or climate change impacts?

3. Technological Integration: What strategies can be implemented to ensure that capacity building efforts effectively incorporate emerging technologies and innovative solutions for energy efficiency and climate resilience?

4. Policy Alignment: How can capacity building programs be aligned with existing policies and regulations to maximize their impact in accelerating the energy transition while ensuring equity and social justice?

5. Measuring Success: What metrics or indicators should be used to evaluate the effectiveness and success of capacity building initiatives in driving meaningful change towards decarbonization and climate resilience in the built environment?
