CIET's Ask Us Anything series is a free monthly Q&A session with industry experts.
In this Ask Us Anything highlight, we're featuring Peter Rowles from our Commercial Heat Pumps Ask Us Anything session, as he answers a question about cold climate heat pumps.
Watch the video or read the transcript below.
Peter: I would say, yes. They're being looked at for residential and, if anything, it would probably be easier to adapt it for commercial application. It's the robustness of the coils, the piping, the compressors, and the selection of refrigerants to get you there.
Olivier: Do you think we're going to start seeing a lot of that?
Peter: I think so. I think in the commercial setting, there's the heat recovery option. In systems that we've put in, we've definitely looked at heat recovery as a supplemental feature. It reduces the peak demand. It chops the peak off the heating load, and it makes it easier for the heat pump to supply the demand. It's a better opportunity in a commercial setting than in residenial.
