NOTE: The Certified Energy Auditor (CEA) certification program focuses on audits for commercial and industrial buildings only and does not qualify participants to perform residential audits.

The CEA certification is issued by the Association of Energy Engineers (AEE), and the program is based on ASHRAE standards. 

CIET’s CEA training program does not cover the residential sector and thus not prepare you to become an accredited NRCan Residential Energy Advisor. Please see our two REA Prep Courses instead:

An energy auditor evaluates and analyzes how energy is being used in a commercial or institutional facility, identifies energy conservation opportunities, and makes recommendations on where consumption can be reduced or optimized. There are three main types of energy audits: Level 1 audits (walkthrough surveys that allow you to rapidly identify opportunities for energy savings); Level 2 audits (energy survey analyses that are commonly used in commercial buildings); and Level 3 audits (detailed analyses of capital-intensive modifications).

The four-day Certified Energy Auditor (CEA) program provides participants with the fundamental knowledge needed to evaluate how energy is being used in a facility and identify where consumption can be reduced. Additionally, it covers useful calculation methodologies through practical examples and peer exercises.

This is the right course for you if you are or will be involved in commercial building audits and want to expand your knowledge of the complete energy auditing and reporting process. The course also prepares you to challenge the exam and earn the CEA credential.

Clint is currently a consultant and instructor providing optimization services for industrial, commercial and institutional customers. He previously served as Senior Buildings Engineer for Pacific Northwest National Laboratories, Senior Energy Engineer with NORESCO, Inc., and the Director of Advanced Solutions for Johnson Controls, Inc. Clint served as the Director of Oklahoma State University's Industrial Assessment Center while pursuing a Ph.D. His broad experience in energy management has included the conducting of over 150 industrial, commercial, and institutional energy surveys over 20 years. He has published widely in the energy field, and made numerous presentations at national and international conferences.
