Advanced Course on Building Recommissioning

This four-day advanced course on recommissioning (RCx) covers all the stages of the process: planning, investigation, implementation, hand-over and monitoring. These stages are presented in detail to allow trainees to develop a coherent understanding of the entire process and reap all the anticipated benefits. The fundamental principles regarding mechanical systems in buildings are discussed and good practices for testing and verification are examined to help trainees develop in-depth understanding of the investigation stage.

To share insight on how to maintain the benefits of the RCx process throughout the life cycle of buildings, the course not only teaches building operating staff on the persistence strategies to be implemented, but also highlights the appropriate interventions in energy monitoring to be carried out by third-parties.

This CanmetENERGY (Natural Resources Canada) advanced course on recommissioning (RCx) has trained 75 professionals in the Province of Quebec Province. Upon course completion, trainees may choose to take a competency examination. The course and examination are both recognised by the Ministère de l'Énergie et des Ressources naturelles of Québec as part of the process of certifying recommissioning agents for mechanical systems in buildings.

Building Operator Certification Training

The Building Operator Certification Training (BOC®) program is eight modules rolled out over a nine-day skills based training and certification program which affords facility personnel improved job skills and knowledge to transform workplaces into more comfortable, energy-efficient and environmentally friendly environments.
Each course consists of highly interactive and hands-on classroom training facilitated by very knowledgeable and experienced building professionals. Project assignments are to be completed at the participant’s facility, and an in-class exam is administered at the end of each day of training.

Building operators are responsible for day-to-day maintenance and operation of large buildings with complex heating, mechanical and electrical systems, which offer excellent opportunity for significant energy savings. You and your company can do a lot to ensure that your buildings operate as energy-efficiently as possible: increase tenant comfort; save money; and reduce your environmental footprint.

Participants must meet certain prerequisite criteria to qualify for the BUILDING OPERATOR TRAINING INCENTIVE. You are eligible for this incentive if you are currently employed or contracted full-time as a building operator with a minimum of ONE of the following:

- Two years of experience performing building operation and maintenance procedures in commercial, institutional or multi-family facilities with a minimum size of 50,000 square feet; OR
- One year of experience performing building operation and maintenance procedures in commercial, institutional or multi-family facilities with a minimum size of 50,000 square feet and a post-secondary education in a facility operation and maintenance related program; OR
- Two years of experience in energy management of commercial, institutional or multi-family facilities with a minimum size of 50,000 square feet.

Certified Building Commissioning Professional

In addition to preparing you for AEE's Certified Building Commissioning Professional (CBCP) program exam, this five-day course is designed to meet the training needs of professionals who need to know the technical details of the commissioning process. This comprehensive course therefore goes into considerable technical detail on the fundamentals of both new building commissioning and existing building commissioning (also called re-commissioning or retro-commissioning).

Commissioning is the process of ensuring that building systems are designed, installed, functionally tested, as well as operated and maintained according to owners’ operational needs. Commissioning also restores high productivity to existing buildings through renovation, upgrades and tune-ups of existing systems. This program examines all aspects of building commissioning. Dozens of case studies from successfully completed projects are presented, including hospitals, data centres, airports, university campuses, school districts, commercial buildings, district heating and cooling projects, and research facilities, all of which is based on the instructors’ more than 40 years of experience in the field. Participants are encouraged to share real-world examples from their personal experience with the class.

The CBCP exam is administered at the close of instruction on day five of each course for those who have qualified in advance to sit for the exam. Qualification requires submitting a completed CBCP application and paying a fee.

Certified Energy Auditor

The Certified Energy Auditor (CEATM) certification program focuses on audits for commercial and industrial buildings only and does not qualify participants to perform residential audits. The CEA certification is issued by the Association of Energy Engineers based in Atlanta, US, and the program is based on ASHRAE standards.

This three-day training is designed to expand knowledge of energy auditing and serve as a preparatory course for AEE's CEATM examination. It provides the fundamentals needed to assess how energy is used by facilities and identify consumption reduction potential. The course also covers useful calculation methods and presents practical examples. The examination is administered on the morning of the fourth day.

The objectives of the course are to:

- Raise the professional standards of those engaged in energy auditing.
- Provide structure to the practice of energy auditing based on ASHRAE definitions for audits ranging from preliminary to investment grade.

Efficient Building Envelope (EBE)
