Overview

The Certified Energy Manager (CEM®) certification is the most recognized designation in energy management and provides a wide range of benefits to help you thrive in both your role and in the energy efficiency industry. More than 16,000 professionals from over 40 countries are now CEM® certified, including more than 4,500 in Canada. The program is also ideal for professionals who require CEM® certification as recognition of their industry expertise or as a required designation for a given position or project.

The comprehensive five-day CEM training is ideal for professionals who seek a thorough program that covers the technical, economic, and regulatory aspects of effective energy management. The CEM also provides a comprehensive forum with problem-solving activities for those who want to gain a broader understanding of the latest energy cost reduction techniques and strategies. Additionally, the course has recently been improved to include:

  • Overview of RETScreen Expert Clean Energy Management software's features to apply lessons learned as well as a free 90-day subscription to RETScreen Expert.
  • A number of case studies and peer exercises covering topics such as M&V solutions, heat recovery, distributed energy resources (DERs), and more.
  • An extra Q&A session at the conclusion of each day of the CEM course, whereby our instructors are available to answer any questions you may have on the study materials or on any aspect of the day’s modules.

Here is a short video about the concept of net present value (NPV), a calculation often used when selecting energy-efficient technologies or projects. This is an example of one of the many concepts that are part of the CEM course:

CIET is the exclusively authorized Canadian trainer of the Association of Energy Engineers (AEE) for the delivery of the CEM® training and certification program.

Please note that CIET only offers the CEM training program in Canada. Should you want to attend CEM training and come from outside of Canada, please visit AEE’s website.

Guy Turgeon, CIET Canada, headshot
Guy Turgeon
Eng., M.Sc.A., CEM

After earning his master’s degree in mechanical engineering from Université Laval, Mr. Guy Turgeon has been gaining experience in engineering for 39 years. Over the years, he has participated in projects implemented in multiple sectors, including public, commercial, industrial, institutional and residential. Having led many multidisciplinary engineering teams in his own enterprise, as well as with several large engineering consulting firms, Mr. Turgeon is recognized as a specialist in buildings and related energy efficiency issues, particularly in matters concerning heat exchange, heat recovery, lighting, and new technologies. He has played an active role on many design and management committees of large-scale projects. Having developed several conferences and written a number of expert articles, he is also working as a trainer in several engineering fields related to energy efficiency.

Maelys Fillon

Ms. Maelys Fillon is a Senior Consultant for the Econoler National group. She holds a Master’s Degree in Energy and Environment Engineering from the National Institute of Applied Sciences of Lyon, in France. She is also a Certified Energy Manager (CEM) and Certified Measurement and Verification Professional (CMVP). Moreover, she is a trainer for those two training courses at the Canadian Institute for Energy Training (CIET).

Thanks to her experience as a senior program manager at CLEAResult, Maelys has participated in many evaluations in recent years and has developed excellent understanding of programs on the Canadian market as well as the implementation barriers encountered by program managers. In 2019, she obtained a certificate of excellence in program management by deepening her knowledge about program design and evaluation.

As an energy efficiency engineer, Maelys has created and conducted more than 100 measurement and verification (M&V) plans and reports and has developed expertise in complex and innovative industrial projects that required in-depth technical skills. Her knowledge about M&V complements here experience as an energy auditor during which time she conducted more than 100 ASHRAE Level II audits in multi-residential, commercial, and industrial buildings.
