Overview

Existing Building Commissioning (EBCx) is a term that refers to the process of testing an existing facility’s systems and equipment to ensure they are still functioning as designed and intended and, if not, make the necessary adjustments. Although comfort problems are the initial reason why Existing Building Commissioning projects are conducted, such projects are also critical in focusing on how the building various systems and components operate together and how operations can be improved.

Increasing occupant comfort and satisfaction while reducing energy operating costs are powerful ways to unlock value in your building assets. It has been well documented that the practice of EBCx reduces operating costs while improving indoor environmental quality.

This Introduction to Existing Building Commissioning program provides participants with a practical approach to EBCx with a specific focus on the elements of a robust investigation. The course leverages a number of real-life examples of successful projects as well as case studies from a variety of commercial and institutional building types. Additionally, a major focus is placed on the operational efficiency of systems – particularly HVAC and control systems.
