Overview

Measurement and Verification (M&V) is generally defined as the process of planning, measuring, collecting and analyzing data in order to verify energy savings within an individual facility as a result of the implementation of one or several energy conservation measures. This is done through a variety of activities, including the use of meters, data gathering and monitoring, energy data estimation and measurement, and validation of reports. Often, individuals specializing in M&V can help a company cost-effectively implement cost-saving activities through clear communication with project partners for a variety of buildings – including existing buildings, new buildings and industrial facilities.

The 3-day CMVP® program helps educate and qualify individuals to learn and apply the fundamental concepts of all modern M&V standards, guidelines, and protocols. The CMVP® Certification provides proof that the individual has gained an understanding of the critical issues surrounding implementation of M&V theory. The program raises the professional standards, both technical and ethical, of those engaged in energy efficiency and energy performance measurement and verification.

The benefit of the CMVP training program and designation is that it enables people to confidently apply the concepts of performance and savings verification in a wide range of contexts, including energy savings performance contracts and utility/government incentive programs. Additionally, It brings all candidates to a base level of understanding of M&V essentials and improves their ability to communicate core concepts with project partners, thereby eliminating potentially disruptive misunderstandings.

As a bonus, this course also includes tips and tricks on how to use the RETScreen Expert Clean Energy Management software to apply course lessons learned as well as a free 90-day subscription to the Professional version of RETScreen Expert.
