Prep Course for the NRCan Low-Rise Multi-Unit Residential Buildings Exam (MURB)

For a limited time, CIET is offering its suite of Residential Energy Advisor (REA) courses at significant discounts thanks to a contribution agreement with Natural Resources Canada (NRCan). CIET can provide discounts of 60% or more to all participants.

Since NRCan wishes to increase the number of energy advisors available to support the Canada Greener Homes Grant Initiative, particularly in underserved areas and/or with underserved groups, discounts of 80% off regular course prices are offered for participants who qualify under one of the underserved groups or reside in one of the underserved areas as defined by NRCan (see below). Other participants receive 60% off regular course fees.

CIET is reserving up to 25% of all course registration spots to participants from underserved groups and areas.

NRCan defines underserved groups and/or areas as follows:

• Women
• Indigenous people
• LGBTQ2S+
• Racialized persons
• Persons with disabilities
• The Canadian Prairies (Alberta, Saskatchewan, or Manitoba)
• Newfoundland and Labrador
• The Canadian North (Yukon, Northwest Territories, Nunavut, and locations north of the 60th parallel)
• Remote or Indigenous communities

A Multi-Unit Residential Building (MURB) is described as a residential building with three or fewer storey in height and a building area that does not exceed 600 m2. MURBs are either stacked (up/down) or have a common area.

The MURB exam is a separate exam from the Energy Advisor Exam and is required if you are planning on conducting an evaluation on this type of building archetype, issuing a MURB label, or performing quality assurance and submitting MURB files to NRCan.

This one-day course will give participants the knowledge and tools they will require in order to challenge the MURB exam.

• Understanding the general, building envelope and mechanical data collection requirements for MURBs
• Understanding when to undertake various blower door test when multiple tests and fans are necessary
• Learning how to model a MURB in the HOT2000 main interface
• Gaining knowledge of the Quality Assurance requirements
