Recently added to CIET’s roster of sustainable energy programs, the 1-day Introduction to RETScreen® Expert course has been created for newer users of the software, or individuals that are just starting to be involved in the analysis or management of energy use in buildings and facilities. The course features both presentations for our trainers, as well as hands-on use and exercises in RETScreen®. The day will culminate with a few knowledge-based exercises.
The RETScreen Expert® Software is an intelligent decision support tool that enables stakeholders to rapidly identify, assess, optimize and track the performance of clean energy investments over the entire project life cycle. The software can be used to evaluate:
By taking the Introduction to RETScreen® Expert course, participants will learn to get the most out of the software, and be presented with an overview of key tools, such as feasibility analysis, performance analysis, and portfolio analysis that they can start to use in their own projects. When they are ready to take the next step in proficiency, The Certified RETScreen® Expert program will be available to guide participants through more complex projects and functionality.

Mr. Elfstrom is an independent energy engineer and has been using RETScreen for 13 years.
His career began in medical physics. He later switched to energy conservation & sustainability, with a passion for reducing reliance on fossil energy. He co-founded Passive Buildings Canada to help bring the superb performance of the Passive House standard to North America.
For six years ending in 2019, David was a project consultant to the manufacturing sector with the conservation and demand management team at a large electric utility, where he developed expertise in compressed air systems and the measurement & verification of complex energy conservation projects.
Now as an independent consultant, he frequently consults to other engineering firms. He has also branched out to ventilation, filtration, and indoor air quality advocacy during the pandemic. His favourite portions of RETScreen are the facility energy model and the performance analysis module.
David Elfstrom is a licensed Professional Engineer, Certified Energy Manager, and Certified Measurement and Verification Professional.
