Looking to break into the energy efficiency industry and start a career you’re passionate about? Here are a few tips to help you position yourself to find a job in the energy field.
When applying for energy efficiency jobs, make sure you have relevant experience and skills. Not only will your experience help you stand out on paper, but it will also give you something specific to talk about in an interview.
We offer over 20 standardized instructor-led and hands-on energy efficiency (EE) training programs recognized by the EE industry. You can find a course by selecting the type of work you are doing or would like to be doing and find relevant courses.
Take the time to customize your resume and cover letter to the specific job you’re seeking (or each position you apply for). If a job posting is requesting specific skills, ensure you highlight the ways you meet the criteria. Take the time and effort to showcase all the ways you are qualified for the specific position.
Look for opportunities to build your network with professionals working in the energy efficiency field. Our CIET Connect networking events are a great way to meet professionals who are passionate about energy efficiency, conservation and sustainability. Sign up for our newsletter to hear about our next event.
Bonus: If you meet someone in the energy industry who inspires you, ask if they would be willing to connect one-on-one. That way, you can ask them about their own career path, how they got where they are, and ask for any advice they can offer you.
With unlimited amounts of information at your fingertips, there is no excuse to not know about the company you’re applying to. Take the time to learn about the company, especially if you get an interview. By doing so, you’ll be able to reference key values, and even ask some specific questions or talk about how you want to help the company achieve its vision.
Send us an email and we will respond as soon as possible.
