The IPMVP® is the energy savings verification protocol most commonly used in the world. Many individuals, such as institution owners and leaders, energy managers and ESCO service suppliers need to develop a general understanding of the methods used to conduct measurement and verification (M&V), though they do not have to possess in-depth expertise as certified CMVP® professionals would.
This one-day training, offered in collaboration with the Efficiency Valuation Organization (EVO®), presents the principal M&V and IPMVP concepts by outlining the central purpose of M&V, summarising the possible usages of M&V methods and stressing the need to conduct M&V calculations based on each project’s specific characteristics. This training is intended for staff and managers in charge of financing and regulations, as well as for technicians who require basic understanding of the role played by M&V in supporting investment in energy efficiency activities.
Please note this 1-day course is exactly equivalent to Day 1 of the regular training schedule of the Certified Measurement and Verification Professional (CMVP) program. For this reason, throughout your 1-day course, you will be attending it alongside those trainees who have enrolled in the regular CMVP program and will be attending Day 1 of this program.

Dr. Eric Mazzi has over 25 years of experience in applied engineering practice, policy research, and teaching for energy systems. His professional experiences include aerospace engineering, combustion and air pollution consulting, energy utility operation and maintenance, and industrial energy management. He was the Power SmartTM Instructor in UBC’s Master of Engineering Clean Energy program from 2009-2014, and is currently an Adjunct Professor of Energy Management at the New York Institute of Technology. Dr. Mazzi has taught energy efficiency and conservation, thermal systems engineering, fluid mechanics, human behavior change, and supervised over 100 Masters of Engineering projects on a variety of topics. He has completed due diligence technical review and measurement & verification (M&V) on many electric and thermal energy projects for industrial plants and buildings.
Dr. Mazzi holds B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees in mechanical engineering, and a doctorate degree in resources and environment. He is a registered professional engineer in British Columbia and California. He completed a doctoral training fellowship in UBC’s Bridge program, a one year teaching fellowship in UBC’s University Sustainability Initiative, and was formerly a Research Collaborator in UBC’s Sustainable Building Science Program. Dr. Mazzi is a Certified Energy Manager (CEM) and Certified M&V Professional (CMVP). He is an active member of the IPMVP committee and Statistics/Uncertainty sub-committee (www.evo-world.org).
