Overview

A more recent addition to CIET’s roster of courses, the Energy Management Professional (EMP) 101 program is aimed at providing both generalists and specialists with well-rounded considerations for the central elements that comprise energy efficiency.

This three-day EMP 101 training course is designed to bring participants on a journey through energy management. First, we start by building a foundational understanding of energy management and energy use. Next, we delve into more technical matters focusing on energy consuming systems and the opportunities for energy savings they present. Finally, we explore how energy management is applied within an organization and how to mobilize people and plans/standards (such as ISO 50001) to set and reach efficiency targets.

Whether you are a seasoned professional looking for a more well-rounded understanding of energy management, a recent arrival to Canada, a new professional just entering the energy efficiency industry, or someone who is looking to acquire a more technical understanding of energy efficiency, EMP101 will prove a valuable training experience.

Many participants have used the EMP101 program to acquire pragmatic and system-based knowledge and skills that are beneficial to their current and future employers. The program also serves as a stepping stone toward the Certified Energy Manager (CEM) designation – which is normally taken after an individual has accumulated at least three years of experience in the industry.

Trainers

Marie-Claude Hamelin

Marie-Claude Hamelin has more than 10 years of experience in energy efficiency, particularly in the design and evaluation of energy efficiency programs. She has worked with most of the energy distributors and energy efficiency agencies in Canada to maximize the savings generated by the programs and to ensure the rigor of the savings calculation methods. Marie-Claude is particularly recognized for her expertise in measurement and verification and in statistical analyzes of energy consumption data. She has managed and conducted evaluations for multiple types of programs in the residential, commercial and industrial sectors and has particular expertise in strategic energy management programs.

Marie-Claude is an engineer and holds a master’s degree in building engineering from Concordia University and a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Sherbrooke. It is also CEM and CMVP certified. As a senior consultant at Econoler, she is responsible for program impact assessment and training for the entire National group.

Maelys Fillon

Ms. Maelys Fillon is a Senior Consultant for the Econoler National group. She holds a Master’s Degree in Energy and Environment Engineering from the National Institute of Applied Sciences of Lyon, in France. She is also a Certified Energy Manager (CEM) and Certified Measurement and Verification Professional (CMVP). Moreover, she is a trainer for those two training courses at the Canadian Institute for Energy Training (CIET).

Thanks to her experience as a senior program manager at CLEAResult, Maelys has participated in many evaluations in recent years and has developed excellent understanding of programs on the Canadian market as well as the implementation barriers encountered by program managers. In 2019, she obtained a certificate of excellence in program management by deepening her knowledge about program design and evaluation.

As an energy efficiency engineer, Maelys has created and conducted more than 100 measurement and verification (M&V) plans and reports and has developed expertise in complex and innovative industrial projects that required in-depth technical skills. Her knowledge about M&V complements here experience as an energy auditor during which time she conducted more than 100 ASHRAE Level II audits in multi-residential, commercial, and industrial buildings.
