The program can also be seen as a steppingstone toward the Certified Energy Manager (CEM) designation – which is normally taken only after at least three years of experience in the field.

  • Energy Fundamentals describes the basic principles of energy, how to manipulate units of measure and helps to understand power and energy terms.
  • Energy Rates describes the different charges that apply to energy consumption and demand, and explains the incremental cost of electricity and thermal energy.
  • Tools for Energy Audits lists and describes the various tools that support an energy audit and how to use these tools to help identify opportunities for energy reduction.
  • Energy Saving Calculations explains the importance of various tools used when calculating energy savings and how to apply them.
  • Motors, Fans, Pumps Savings & VSDs describes a method to assess savings opportunities in motor driven systems, identifies common opportunities and the savings calculation required for speed control.
  • Heating Systems describes the basics of combustion and different types of boilers, how to maximize the efficiency of a condensing boiler, and identifies improvement opportunities and best practices for optimum performance
  • Cooling Systems Savings describes the key components of mechanical cooling and refrigeration systems, how the systems operate, and how to identify energy saving opportunities for cooling systems.
  • Lighting System Savings explains lighting systems terminology, describes the various components of an effective lighting system and how they interact, and identifies conservation and efficiency.
  • Building Envelope Savings describes the mechanisms for heat loss through building envelope, identifies tools and methods to assess opportunities for improvements, and describes building envelope energy savings opportunities.
  • Renewable Energy identifies where renewable energy is appropriate, the major sources of renewable energy (RE), and the tools used to estimate savings potential for RE systems.

The course includes...

  • On the first day of training, you receive your copies of the CMVP workbooks which are included in the course fee.
  • Please note that all breakfasts, lunches, as well as morning and afternoon coffee breaks are also included in the course fee.


If you are unable to attend the course, you may substitute another person in your place without penalty. All cancellations or postponements must be communicated to CIET by email at info@cietcanada.com.

  • Registrations cancelled more than 4 weeks prior to the course starting date: no penalty.
  • Registrations cancelled between 2 and 4 weeks prior to the course starting date will be assessed a $200 administration fee.
  • Registrations cancelled 2 weeks or less prior to the course starting date will be assessed 50% of the registration fee.
