Overview

The Energy Efficiency for Building Operators course is a hands-on and highly interactive 2-day course designed to engage, motivate and empower Building Operators. Over two days, our instructors will facilitate participant’s understanding of how energy behaves, how energy is used in their facility, and how it can be controlled through operational action across a variety of building systems.

A unique aspect of this training course is the Energy Hunt - which will bring participants out of the classroom and into the practical day-to-day operations of the building, allowing participants to take part in a detailed examination of a building. The learnings from this exercise will then be brought back into the classroom, where participants will learn how to conduct savings calculations for the energy found during the Hunt.

Throughout the course, a variety of physical demonstrations, calculations, worksheets, role playing, and case studies will be presented to bring to life the energy savings opportunities that exist within Lighting, Pumps & Fans, building envelope components, HVAC and Refrigeration, Building Automation Systems, ventilation, and more.

Building operators and related maintenance and facilities staff know their building better than anyone. As such, they are uniquely positioned to discover and act on energy savings opportunities that will reduce maintenance costs and the overall operating costs of their building.

Objectives

  • Learn how building operations impact energy consumption and how to identify energy waste
  • Determine how you can improve energy efficiency through building maintenance and operations
  • Gain expertise on how to conduct simple energy savings calculations, and explain savings to others
  • Learn how building control strategies can be used to reduce energy consumption and costs
  • Gain a better understanding of the optimization of heating, ventilation & AC

Important COVID-19 Update for CIET Spring 2020 Training Calendar – CIET Goes Virtual!

Last Updated: March 24, 2020, 09:20am

CIET Goes Virtual!

The entire CIET team has been working hard recently to provide new training options for you through virtual real-time classrooms considering the current situation. This will allow everyone to continue accessing CIET training in a safe manner, which protects both our participants and our trainers. You can register for these virtual courses in confidence, knowing that they will provide the same quality of training that you expect from CIET. These real-time training sessions will be available to all participants across Canada.

REGISTER FOR VIRTUAL TRAINING TODAY: You can view all these virtual training courses on our calendar!

Deferred courses

For now, CIET has taken the decision to defer all in-class courses which cannot be offered virtually, scheduled before June 15, 2020.

If you are NOT registered to a course yet:

We are still taking registrations for all courses (deferred and virtual) and will communicate with registered participants to a deferred course when it becomes possible to offer the training again in person.

Cancellation policy: Should you wish to cancel later, we’ve suspended our cancellation policy and there are no fees for any cancellation effective immediately. This suspension will be effective for all registrations made prior to, at least, April 30, 2020.

If you ARE registered to a deferred course:

Courses offered before June 15, 2020, which cannot be offered virtually, are currently deferred.

For now, we propose keeping the registrations of all participants active and informing you of: (1) new dates as they become possible/available; and (2) our new fall 2020 training dates, which should be announced in May-June. Your registration and payment could then be applied, without additional fees, to any new training session.

Should you still wish to cancel, we’ve suspended our cancellation policy and there are no fees for any cancellation effective immediately.

Through all these measures, CIET hopes to provide as much flexibility as possible to training participants while respecting its commitments to other participants, trainers and partners, as well as public health recommendations.

We thank you very much for your trust and collaboration and look forward to welcoming you soon with an elbow bump!

Best regards,

The CIET Team
