Overview

For those who want to get advanced M&V concepts, the two-day Advanced Measurement and Verification training program provides hands-on exercises and concepts that serve to complement and reinforce theoretical knowledge acquired through common M&V certification courses and designation.

On day 1, we recap the main features of M&V and focus on the use of various statistical tools for developing M&V plans, such as: sampling, linear regressions (including multivariable regressions), and uncertainty calculations. On day 2, we explore practical examples of International Performance Measurement and Verification Protocol (IPMVP) options for the following cases: lighting, motors and variable speed drives, compressed air, heat recovery systems, and commercial buildings. Participants also perform calculations for these cases. Finally, day 2 concludes with the development of an M&V plan.

If you are looking to increase your knowledge of the M&V process and the preparation or interpretation of plans, this program covers the statistical tools, examples, and case studies that are sure to help you develop your expertise.

Target Audience

  • Building/industry owners who wish to measure their projects’ energy savings
  • Building/industry owners who wish to partner with ESCOs to implement energy efficiency (EE) projects
  • Employees responsible for EE program evaluation and operation
  • Engineering/professional firms specialized in energy efficiency
  • ESCO employees required toprepare M&V plans

*Owning an M&V certification is not a prerequisite to the course but is strongly recommended.

Agenda

Statistical Tools for M&V (Day 1)

This one-day module recaps the main features of M&V and focuses on the use of various statistical tools for developing M&V plans, such as: sampling, linear regression (including multi-variables regression), uncertainty calculations. Exercises to be performed by the attendees will reinforce the learning process.

Practical Examples and Case Studies (Day 2)

Practical examples will be reviewed for Options A, B and C, for the following cases: lighting, motor & variable speed drives, compressed air, heat recovery system and a commercial building. Attendees will also have to perform calculations for these cases. The day will conclude with the development of an M&V plan for an industrial process.

Trainers

Sandeep Dahiya

Mr. Dahiya is involved in the retro-commissioning of existing buildings and the conducting of HVAC training.

His focus is to improve the operational efficiency of HVAC systems in existing buildings by:

  • designing retrofit solutions;
  • defining operating procedures;
  • monitoring chiller parameters and running diagnostics;
  • providing HVAC training for site managers, engineers and operators;

His experience has been that there is more than 10% inefficiency that can be immediately addressed with low-cost or no-cost HVAC measures in buildings.

Mr. Dahiya is a LEED AP, a CMVP and a Lead Auditor of ISO 50001. He is a CMVP Trainer and has conducted many CMVP workshops in India and Dubai.

He taught also the 18th and 19th batch of young engineers at ISHRAE Education & Research Foundation (www.ierfeducation.org) in 2014-2015 and was one of the trainers of the first EUREM Energy Efficiency Specialist training programs in Delhi (July-September 2015).

He is working with Stellar Group, Advant Group, Fortis Hospital, Noida and Infosys Ltd.

CIET to Continue Virtual Real-Time Classroom Training in the First Half of 2022 ... with a Twist!

Last Updated: November 8, 2021

CIET to Continue Virtual Real-Time Classroom Training in the First Half of 2022 … with a Twist!

With well over 200 virtual real-time courses delivered since March 2020 and based on feedback received from more than 2,500 participants, CIET is happy to announce that all public training sessions offered between January and June 2022 will be delivered through our virtual real-time classrooms, with one exception. We’re very excited about our very first in-person course since March 13, 2020: a Certified Energy Manager (CEM) session to be held in downtown Toronto from April 4 to 8, 2022.

Keeping our courses virtual will allow everyone to continue to access CIET training in a safe manner that protects both our participants and trainers regardless of what happens with the pandemic or public health measures. This allows you peace of mind to register for a virtual training course today, knowing that the training will be delivered with the same quality that you would expect from an in-person CIET course. Also, keeping virtual real-time training sessions will ensure that our full course calendar is available to all participants across Canada and abroad regardless of geographical location.

That being said, we really hope to be able to deliver (1) a much broader in-person offering in the fall of 2022 (2) while still offering significant pan-Canadian virtual training.

Through all these measures, CIET hopes to provide as much flexibility as possible to training participants while respecting its commitments to other participants, trainers, and partners, as well as public health recommendations.

We thank you very much for your trust and collaboration and look forward to welcoming you in our virtual classrooms!

 Best regards,

The CIET Team
