Program overview

The Tools for Completing Probationary Files course builds on the knowledge gained from completing the Energy Advisor training. This training program is focused on data entry and modelling for a home case study project with specific emphasis on unique features. The case study goes beyond just filling out probationary files and includes a detailed review of upgrade options for building envelopes, key benefits and considerations, as well as financial analysis on greenhouse gas emissions based on available upgrades.

The course is also focused on mechanical aspects by exploring how different types of mechanical systems are integrated into homes, how they can be integrated with renewable energy systems, and how these systems interact with each other.

During the case study portion of the course, participants consider various geographical locations and utility structures that are relevant across different regions in Canada. Additionally, they conduct a financial review of the case study and then develop a one-page proposal.

If you are looking to get started on becoming a registered Energy Advisor, you may want to check out our Foundation Level and Energy Advisor prep courses for more details.

What you will learn

  • Complexify your probationary files.
  • Model a wider range of residential energy building types.
  • Analyze more advanced concepts such as geographical regions, available fuel sources, and how these can be integrated into existing systems and possibly combined with renewable technologies.
  • Create a one-page proposal for an energy efficiency residential project.

This course is ideal for

  • Existing energy advisors
  • Students that are technically proficient in HOT2000 and want to complete a case study to expand their knowledge and experience
  • Service organization employees and stakeholders
