The Certified RETScreen® Expert (CRE) program is designed for those who have either completed the Introduction to RETScreen® Expert course or who have some previous experience with the software.
The CRE program is aimed at enhancing participants’ skills in analyzing all types of energy efficiency and renewable energy technologies. Additionally, the program equips participants with a comprehensive understanding of new RETScreen® Expert analysis features, including the Virtual Energy Analyzer and Portfolio Analysis module, as well as energy performance data monitoring.
This three-day course is highly immersive and combines instructor-led presentations with practical software exercises. The CRE course enhances participants’ proficiency and comfort level with the software to enable them to perform various tasks such as benchmarking, feasibility analysis, and project greenhouse gas (GHG) emission impact assessments. If you are involved in assessing building or organizational energy use, this course is perfect for you.

The program is aimed at enhancing participants’ proficiency with RETScreen® Expert, culminating in a master case study that serves as a review of software features and constitutes the basis of the certification exam.
Short quizzes will also be proctored throughout the course to ensure retention of and comfort with the materials presented.

Everyone who desires to follow this training program is eligible to learn how to work with and become a Certified RETScreen® Expert, such as building owners, operators, or managers, technical experts, employees managing a portfolio of properties, engineering firms or professional firms specialized in energy efficiency, ESCO employees, as well as employees responsible for EE program evaluation and operation.
Once the exam is passed, you will be notified by email of your exam results within 45 days after taking the exam. If successful, you will receive your CRE certificate through email as well. This certification doesn't expire.
There will be three quizzes (about 15 questions each) and a final three-hour master case study to be completed on your computer.
The online course will be delivered on the Microsoft Teams platform; the link to your session can be found in your confirmation email.
Please install the RETScreen® Clean Energy Management Software on your computer before the course using this link.
Your RETScreen® trial key will be shared via the course Microsoft SharePoint site a few days prior to the start of the course.
If you wish to use your own RETScreen software, your version must be 9.1.0.0 or later; older versions may require an update.
We strongly recommend using two monitors to follow the training effectively.
