Overview
The process of measurement and verification (M&V) involves planning, measuring, and analyzing data to verify energy savings achieved through the implementation of energy conservation measures. This three-day CMVP course enables participants to thoroughly understand modern M&V standards, guidelines, and protocols.
The CMVP program and certification serve to ensure that professionals understand essential M&V concepts by improving their ability to communicate effectively with partners, thereby leading to smoother project implementation. Completing this training and earning the CMVP certification elevates technical expertise and ethical standards in energy efficiency and performance measurement. Professionals gain the skills to effectively implement M&V principles in diverse building types including existing buildings, new constructions, and industrial facilities, and enable companies to implement cost saving activities.
This program covers the nine bodies of knowledge essential to pass the CMVP exam. Topics include fundamental performance verification approaches, M&V planning, savings reporting, metering and considerations thereof, and modelling concepts. You will acquire the necessary skills and knowledge to confidently measure, verify, and report energy performance and savings in diverse contexts, including energy savings performance contracts and utility/government incentive programs.
The CMVP certification is recognized, required, and otherwise supported in numerous public and private entities. In Canada, the CMVP is frequently listed as a key qualification on job announcements, but CMVP is almost notably recognized in the following ways:

The CMVP course imparts fundamental knowledge across several core principles and practices specific to measuring, verifying, and reporting energy performance. This is ensured by the presentation of the following nine sections:

While registering for this course you'll have the opportunity to add two optional online Certified Measurement and Verification Professional (CMVP®) personalized pre-exam coaching sessions of one and a half hour each, held the week after the course concludes. These sessions are designed to maximize your chances of success by offering a fully customized experience tailored to each participant’s unique needs.
Only 10 spots are available per session. Enrollment is confirmed on a first-come, first-served basis.

*Please note the presentation (slides) of this course will be shipped to your preferred mailing address. If your registration was made too close to the course (two weeks before the course starts or less), there is a possibility that you may receive it during or even after the course ends. If this happens, we will request AEE's permission to share the digital version with you, so you can follow the course as you wait for your material to arrive.

Registration for an AEE exam can be made while registering for an AEE course or through our AEE Exam Retake cohorts. All virtual exams are taken through the Proctor U platform. Once you have registered and paid the rewrite/exam only fee, your name will be forwarded to AEE and Proctor U.
You should receive an email from noreply@proctoru.com 3 to 5 days before the session starts. This email will contain a link for you to schedule your four-hour remote exam on their platform. Please make sure you check your junk inbox or quarantine folder for the email; if you still cannot find it once the course or the exam retake cohort has started, you must notify us at support@cietcanada.com and request for the email to be resent to you.
Should you wish to reschedule your exam under the same cohort, you may do so through the same link provided by Proctor U; however, to modify an exam that is already scheduled, you need to do so at least 24h before the existing time slot.
You will need to schedule your exam at least 72 hours ahead of desired exam time to avoid premium fees charged directly to you by Proctor U. Exams scheduled less than 72 hours from their desired exam time will be charged a premium scheduling fee.
Candidates are unable to schedule their exams less than 24 hours from the desired exam time.
To ensure a smooth exam process, it is crutial to read all Proctor U remote proctoring procedures (especially the Proctor U Guidelines) below:
You will receive a letter from CIET via email within 60 days of completion of the exam that will include the OFFICIAL test score. Please do not contact CIET or AEE about your test results before the end of the 60-day period. Exam results are not available on CIET’s or AEE’s website.

The exam is conducted through remote proctoring, which involves taking an online exam using a personal computer while being monitored live by a Proctor via webcam and screen-sharing technology. The exam is open-book, and a calculator, ruler, book tabs, and a protractor are allowed.
An AEE designation can be used with the name on organizational letterhead, business cards, and all forms of address. Certification is for individuals only. The CEM designation may not be used to imply that an organization or firm is certified.
The exam is conducted through remote proctoring, which involves taking an online exam using a personal computer while being monitored live by a Proctor via webcam and screen-sharing technology. The exam is open-book, and a calculator, ruler, book tabs, and a protractor are allowed.
If you wish to reschedule your exam for another cohort, you can do so using the same link provided by ProctorU; however, to modify an exam that is already scheduled, you must do so at least 24 hours before the initially chosen time. You will need to schedule your exam at least 72 hours ahead of the desired time to avoid additional fees charged directly by ProctorU.
If you want to postpone the exam to a different cohort, a fee of $150 plus taxes applies unless you provide medical proof.

My background in energy efficiency was primarily at the industrial process level, so I chose to train with CIET to expand my knowledge on building energy systems. I completed the Advanced Course on Existing Building Commissioning (EBCx) as well as the two courses on Building Automation Systems. The new concepts I learned, enhanced by the knowledge of the trainers and the other participants, quickly helped me identify opportunities relating to energy, comfort, and maintenance, most often "low cost" ones.
