Scope 3 emissions, which include indirect upstream and downstream activities such as purchased goods, business travel, and product end-of-life impacts, often represent the largest share of an organization’s climate impact.
To support professionals in developing the competencies needed to take action, CIET is offering a one-day training on scope 3 emissions accounting. This course provides a practical introduction to identifying, estimating, quantifying, and managing Scope 3 emissions in accordance with international standards and best practices.
This interactive training session will help participants understand the significance of Scope 3 emissions in decarbonization strategies, navigate the GHG Protocol’s 15 categories of Scope 3 emissions, and explore real-world examples of Scope 3 data collection and reduction planning. Participants will engage with short case studies and hands-on exercises to support knowledge retention and real-world application. Thanks to the Becoming Carbon Neutral course, I gained a better understanding of how the industry's approach to carbon neutrality is taking significant strides towards standardization, definitions, and requirements. Unfortunately, some requirements are challenging for a small northern jurisdiction like Yukon. My background in energy efficiency was primarily at the industrial process level, so I chose to train with CIET to expand my knowledge on building energy systems. I completed the Advanced Course on Existing Building Commissioning (EBCx) as well as the two courses on Building Automation Systems. The new concepts I learned, enhanced by the knowledge of the trainers and the other participants, quickly helped me identify opportunities relating to energy, comfort, and maintenance, most often "low cost" ones.
