This one-day Introduction to Combined Heat and Power (CHP) course covers the fundamentals of technical, economic and regulatory aspects of cogeneration. These topics are presented in sufficient detail to allow participants to develop an understanding of the entire process, including load assessment, systems design principles and economic analysis.

This course provides the engineering specialists with the knowledge required to assess CHP technologies for specific applications. A comprehensive assessment of process and building loads (both electrical and heating and/or cooling) is the starting point in the decision and selection process. Understanding how to operate various CHP system components (prime mover, heat recovery and thermally activated technologies) is required. Finally, participants learn how to select optimum solutions based on economic analysis.

Topics Covered

  • CHP benefits

  • Load assessment

  • System design principles

  • Power generation equipment

  • Heat recovery technologies

  • Economic analysis

  • Regulatory and policy impact

  • Case studies
